Thanks for the suggestion joosh.

Some 600 grit sandpaper solved this problem in under 2 minutes (already placed in order for a replacement rod from the solidoodle shop though). I have done 3 prints since buffing it down and the bar has been completely free of teflon dust. I'll rotate the teflon block to the other side later tonight; which looks like it will actually make both blocks hug the rod finally. This should help me really dial in these print settings!

You should be able to buffer that out with progressively higher grit sand papers. It is tough to tell how deep the scratches are but you don't want to change the dimensions or roundness of the rod either. Maybe you can just turn it so that the scratches don't come into contact with the Teflon on top or bottom. Either way, you should still flip the Teflon or get a new block. Also make sure there is nothing on your carriage that might be scratching the rod.

Yep... The Y-Axis rod starts off with a big gouge, which then becomes a pair of gouges and afterwords is full of tiny dings and dents as I run my fingernail over it. Left rod is smooth and greasy. Solidoodle should be checking these rods post-installation for this sort of thing before shipping em off.

You should inspect the rod very closely for a bit of superglue or abs that may be stuck on it somewhere. I wouldn't say long term damage, but I would flip the Teflon block over if it is drilled so the hole is centered. If not, I would get a new one to replace that since you can see a groove has been carved. I'm not sure but don't think it could be a greasing issue since enough friction to shred the Teflon would make the motors skip. I would think it is more likely there is an actually sharp chunk of impedance. Is that another pile down on the other end of the rod too?
