I can't speak for others but I feel that it is important for SD to have some presence amongst the community.  I personally don't frequent the IRC channel often but that may not be the case for some other users looking for input or advice directly from SD.

In fact it was only ever John anyway, and he hasn't been on channel. And its also now removed from their "Contact Us" pages.
