Make sure you take a REALLY good look at the diagrams on Lawsy's thingiverse page before you put it back together.  I'm not sure what you mean by "spun the part around" but in addition to having the carriage facing the right way, the bearing holders are also specific to the front and rear.  The holes are close, but not the same, so if you are forcing it then you are doing it wrong.  If you do it wrong, you won't be able to add a fan duct later if you choose to do so.

Also, I'm not sure if you have the M3 nuts in the top carriage or not but consider adding a drop of glue to each one if you use the nuts instead of just threading the long bolts.  Without this, the nut will just spin when you try to take it off, adding more frustration.

Just to add to this... You can just pop the bearing holders off the bearings and swap them to get things to line up properly.

Next to no grease is best.  The rods are most likely just pressed in and they are tight.  There isn't any real reason to pull them out.
Stick with it you'll be happy you did.

seller blames me, says I screwed it up somehow because it "worked fine" when he sold it, I guess UPS must have opened it and put the part on backwards then LOL

The important thing is you got it figured out.  Get it all working and don't worry about what the seller claims.  Clearly the seller knew just enough to be dangerious.  You will most certainly come upon other problems and when you do you'll be smart enough to ask for help.  We are all here to help.  Remember this... If it isn't fun walk away.  Eventually you will have as much fun working, hacking and modding your printer as you will actually printing things.
