I just use a paint cant with some aluminum risers I made and a square aluminum patform with acetone at the bottom. I them put it into the bathroom sink, heat the tap as hot as it gets, then plug the drain and toss on the lid...takes longer but is impossible to catch fire.

At least you guys are ok and Tomek saved money on body wax

I had 2 hrs of sleep and was running late for class. But I wanted to ship a part that day, from makexyz. So i was on my porch really tired and heating a small mason jar of acetone with a lighter, but my part is not really responding to the acetone. This goes on for a short while until the whole jar explodes and I lose all the hair on my right hand a little past the wrist. I woke up very quickly holding the bottom half of a jar of lit acetone- uncertain what to do before I drop it.

*I think this was stupid of me. I was using a lighter and a mason jar....Extra extra dumb.

**I think the filament, afinia high quality, may have been some sort of blend. It runs 30(C) higher temperature than other ABS filaments, and somehow 'nicer.' Also pricey. It seems to have resisted the acetone, so perhaps it was ABS-PC, which would also go in turn with the higher running temp.

I had a totally Mythbuster moment the other day. I was playing with acetone vapors for smoothing my 3D prints and left the heat on way too long and when I opened the lid WOOSH, flame!

First thing after realizing no big deal as the flame dissipated in the air was thinking of the Mythbuster line "Am I missing an eyebrow?".

Just a FYI, no harm was done and I know what I did wrong. In a way it was totally cool, but I don’t want to repeat it.

Don't worry folks, I had good ventilation and all. My mistake was trying to use the "presto part finisher" a second time shortly after the first set, probably not enough time to let the other dissipate and too much heat.

The prints were just fine FYI.
