Right, one big arse print coming up.
Ran out of PLA over the weekend so I figured I'd get to work on the IXS in ABS between now and when my next batch of PLA arrives.

It's sat next to a 330mm long chunk of makerslide for scale.
So in total I think it'll probably be at least as long as the other large 'Aventine' class ship I printed last year which is about 700mm long.

Heya guys,

Just thought I'd post some pix of my take on Mark Rademakers IXS Enterprise model that's been doing the Science media rounds lately.
Little bit of backstory: In 1994 a Mexican Physicist wrote a paper outlining the possibility of super-luminal travel within General Relativities confines, IE not breaking any of the laws of physics.
Since then NASA has recruited several theoretical physicists to further the mathematics.
Last year Doctor Harold White and artist Mark Rademaker began designing an impression of what a warp ship might look like using the understanding of the physics outlined in the current theory.
The theory and obviously the subsequent technology are probably at least a hundred years away from being close to reality, but it's amazing none the less.

Mark's original design can be found here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/123021064 … 113972600/
Evidently he's not keen on printing the model via the likes of Shapeways.... Understandable given the complexity.

Here's my version that I knocked up over a few hours today, still a bit of work to do but I actually kinda like it.

From start to finish....

And in 1/2500 scale next to the Shuttle.

And a random render to test out Blenders wireframe thingy.
