(http://www.sketchup.com/)  It does not export directly to .stl files, but there are plugins which are easily found to do that.  Good luck!

I'm interested in 3D-printing but was wondering how the modeling for the 3D-printing is done.  Do I need a CAD program and if so want type for software is needed?  Or will some type of "other" software programs provide the design connection used to get my design ideas ready for 3D-printing?  I have some ideas for designs but not sure how to get started with this technology.

Would like reply to this post and any ideas you may have,  thanks
