^^ Thank you, I cut off the shrink wrap on the thermisistor and the wire fell right off. So clearly the solder had cracked and the wire was loose causing the wire to detach as the hot end moved around. I re-soldered the connector and everything is back to normal!

i soldered mine, fixed it immediately. Just a heads up though, i did the pid calibration and it happened again, i had to do that 3 times to get it to like what it found, then it stopped again after that

Sorry, I have used it for well over a 100 hours so these type of problems are expected. I have the Solidoodle 2 with the original Sanguilino 1.3 board. I have just replaced the wiring harness with a new one from SD so I do not believe the connectors to be the issue.

I too think that something is loose, but I do not know where.

I just ran a quick test. The temperature reading is fine when the gantry is stationary, but the second I move it around, it goes crazy. Could the thermistor cables be shorting out on the hot end? Is it more likely the connection to the motherboard or the connection to the Hot end?

How bout' a little background info... what machine? mainboard? how many hours have you used it? how long after powerup until it does this? does it do this when just sitting powered up but no power to the hotend? any other specifics you can think of would be helpful

it looks very much like a bad connection to the thermistor most likely at the crimp.

So I have been going back and forth with SD and cannot seem to find the source of these crazy readings. I have re-tuned my PID, replaced the wiring harness and swapped extruders to no avail. Does anyone have an idea for what could be causing this problem?

Edit: So the Problem ended up being with the soldered wire on the thermistor. I have attached images as to what went wrong. Thw solder must have failed and as the print head moved around, the wire gained and lost connection causing large spikes in the temperature readings.
