Your right it's not exact voltage just gets you real close. As far as x,y there is enough mechanical play in things that your probably as close as your going to get. The z is all over the place for the same reasons but it settles in during printing as it is moving in one direction. There are many different fixes here on the forum.

So its technically not an exact voltage im looking for, will try this tomorrow (didnt mke this easy did they?). Same process for every motor? An just out of curiousity if you know, what kind of precision should i be aiming for? I seem to be able to get the x and y to within a .04mm swing above or below from design spec. Z is all over th place, .25 to .5 mm off of the same measurement, havent tacked that yet.

The least amount of pulsing. Slow it way down it also helps to put a mark on the drive gear. You can see it pulse. You just want it rotating as smoothly as possible. All you can do is experiment with it a little.

Once you do that fine tune by ear... set it up for a nice slow extrude with some real length so you have time to adjust it. You should be able to hear the pulse of the stepper. Just get it running as smooth as possible.

If im reading properly, all my motors are set between 3.3 and 3.8 volts

ok if im following http://www.solidoodle.com/multimeter-te … olidoodle/ correctly, and measuring red lead from c39 and black lead from the chip, like shown here, http://solidoodle.wdfiles.com/local--fi … v%20E.JPG, and my multimeter is set like so, .

Am I setup right? 3.3 volts are going to that motor? or am i messing something up?

VREF is covered many times here on the forum. Basically adjusts the voltage to the stepper motor. Each stepper driver has a small potentiometer on them that can be adjusted.

whats the vref? i have calibrated the extruder before, is pulls in exactly what i tell it too, i watched the video. Tried glass, i just dont wanna keep hairspray on supply ... got 2 new kapton tapes coming. i have retraction set to only retract when crossing perimeters and a 1mm retraction. and you right, i did a larger print befor i went to bed, dosent seem like its there on that one.

belt tension is fairly tight, but i have the bearing with the pillow block installed and my circles are fine, printhead does seem like it has a bit of play in it, not too much though. how tight should it be?

Belt tension, carriage misalignment, and slightly loose printhead are also possibilities. I had a similar problem on my 3DR Delta and it turned out to be the frame was slightly out of square in relation to the print bed, as the head climbed the columns the print veered in the direction of the tilt, took a lot of measuring to figure that one out.

Calling on the soliforum ..... help. I got nothing. I have the x and y calibrated within .01 mm. Have the pillow block on the y rod, circles are pretty damned good. Anti backlash spring nut installed on the z .... and this is still happening. It seems its only on the calibration cube, but I have to print something else to be sure. Unfortunately that's on hold because I just sliced my kapton tape (really need that plastic knife). any ideas anyone can think of?
