i reckon on the "acetone" ... had some myself of ebay, was not 99.7% pure or whatever they advertised... reckoned it was diluted with water.. didnt have the same smell as my normal supply of acetone either... opened a case with ebay, guy accepted them for a cash return... got some elsewhere.. no probs!... i got the deal where it was buy 2 litres get one litre free.... everything that glitters is not always gold.... or acetone in my case!!

You sure its plain ABS your are trying to dissolve, and that its actually acetone?

It's not a trick that causes Acetone to dissolve the chains in ABS to break it down... so if its not working, then either; its not 'plain' ABS (is a co-polymer filament of some description); or its adulterated acetone (or not acetone at all); Or the basis of chemistry is somehow different inside the jar.....

place a lid on it, but if you are in a cyclical temperature area, or even just by the window, it would be wise to put a small pinprick hole on the top to prevent pressure buildup while not very meaningfully increasing acetone evaporation. That said I have one jar in my closet that does not have a pinprick; it's not the end of the world eitherway.

Did you have the lid on the jar? It looks to me like your acetone has evaporated enough to replace itself with water. So now you have a stinky jar of water. You don't need that much acetone just enough to cover the plastic in the jar. You also don't need to put it in hot water. Now that I think about it you don't need any of this just get your printer set up correctly and you won't have to use a slurry to make your prints. Now if your using this to fix prints that's another thing.

So I took about 300mm of white ABS filament and put it into this glass jar filled with 1/3 full of acetone. Put the jar in hot water for a day. All of the filament dissolved and just a goop right now. But it won't mix with acetone.

The ABS goop and acetone just sit there in 2 layers in that jar.

I poked the goop and it's like tooth paste. Acetone that sit on top is very clear.
