I preordered the day they opened the store for preorders, but I never expected they'd actually meet their estimated date. They have a booth scheduled for the CES show in January, and I'll wager they are really intent on being able to say they are shipping by then. At least their blog does make it look like real progress is being made.

Meanwhile, my stoopid Toyota keyfob once again set off the alarm when I sat down in the car today and it got caught in a fold of cloth in my pocket. My absolute #1 red-hot top priority when I finally get my scanner is to scan the dadgum thing and use the scan to build a shell model I can 3D print and slide over the fob to protect the buttons :-).

An update to what is written below is that Drew is back from China with a few test units. We're testing these plastic shot units to make sure they're working within tolerances before we hit "go" at the factory to begin pumping the units out. Things are progressing steadily and we estimate that shipping will now start in mid to late January. That will be almost 4 months since I ordered, if I get it then. Very disappointed.

Whats everyone think about this? Seems like makerbot beet them to it, but at an early adopters fee of $1400 bucks. I've seen next engine scanner, but the software to make it functional is more expensive than the scanner itself.

Will this matterform actually produce and mesh together a full .stl? How much editing does one need to do in order to mesh scans?
