Yeah, you can back it off a millimeter or two, and put a flat washer in there if you like. A couple millimeters will be fine. I'll revise the instructions to note this.

That's why a 240 grit hone, I figured all it needed was a good cleaning.
As you can see from the photo(I hope) the collar is badly misaligned. It's caused by the set screw not hitting the turned flat surface of the auger shaft. Just before the helix is a small area not machined. This is where the set screw makes contact with the shaft. If you tighten it there it wants to skew because the collar has some run out.
Can I put a flat washer in there? Or will that cause issues? I don't want to ruin my thrust bearing prematurely.

As for the collar, I'm not sure I understand what you're describing - can you take a picture? The face of the collar does need to be perpendicular to the auger shaft or you will accelerate the thrust bearing wear.

Careful with flex hones - if you make the barrel too smooth, output rate will be decreased.

Just started assembly of serial #1179. First question-Does the shaft collar have to sit perpendicular to the auger shaft? Mine will not because the set screw is just past the turned area of the shaft. When tightened it makes the collar skewed. My instinct says it needs to be straight/perpendicular or the thrust bearing will not have a flat surface to run on. True? The fix would be to put another flat washer between the auger and collar, then the set screw tightens on the turned flat surface, and all is well. Is there clearance for that?
I also would like to impart a tip/tricks I used on deburring the pipe and auger. I used a 5/8"/240 grit Flex hone on the pipe. Not enough grit to totally flatten the inner surface, but it cleaned it nicely.
I used dremel rubber bullets on my auger edge. Surprisingly there were a lot of fine metal shavings coming off.
Hopefully this will shorten my run in time.

Very excited to get this going! I've read all the forum posts, including the 58+ page initial sticky.
