Humm ok that sounds about right. I just swapped in a Ubis hot end from a Printrbot that I luckily had nearby. Hacked the connectors together using some pcb pin headers which worked pretty well and I didn't want to permanently modify either set of connections. I'll just wait and either order the brass barrel when I have the cash but probably just save for a E3D...

God's truth. Unless you have the facilities, getting a threaded M6 barrel with turned down edges is not easy. If you do order from Maker Gear, you may want to order more than one. I can attest that their product is good and they ship fast in the US.

If you have a tool shop, doing it yourself is the best (and cheapest) way as M6 threaded rod is cheap in meter lengths.

That's about as cheap as it gets. You're paying a machine shop to drill a hole in threaded rod, plus the cost of the rod itself. Part volumes aren't high enough to drive costs lower.

Hey guys, recently had to take apart my hot end again due to a pretty nasty clog that crept up on me. During the process I managed to strip the threaded brass barrel. It's such a small part of the extruder, I was wondering if it's something I can buy locally, but maybe under a different name.

If not, is there a good place to find a cheap replacement online that's compatible with the rest of the Solidoodle hot end (PEEK and nozzle)?

Really need to save up and just get a E3D hot end... but in the meantime... a brass barrel that I can find at a hardware or fastener store. Think it's possible?
