Helifrek, with catch you can take pics of your fave copter, turn it into a model and make all those changes you've been dreaming about, then print a new flyer, big enough to ride on. I'll come over, bring some beer and chicks and we'll have a helluva party.

Glad you like it. I think your actually the one who suggested it to me. At first I liked sketchup because it seemed easy but after I learned more about 3D printing and modeling I found that it is best to use a solid modeler. so I tried out a few different ones that seemed very complicated and then I found 123D which is by far my favorite. It still slows down my computer a little bit and can be laggy at times but I still like it way more than anything else I have tried. James Bruton on youtube has a few videos that I enjoy watching. plus his accent just makes the video that much more fun to watch. I am still having a hard time using the program but I think that is mainly due to how little free time I have.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dlGox0BxOY

Here is a nice little video on 123D for anyone that's interested. 123D is available free either online or download it. The guy does kinda breeze through the demo so pause to read the little tool tips in the lower part of his screen to see what's going on. Note how clean and simple the UI is, you only see icons that pertain to the object you are focused on, not the whole menu system. Lots of sophisticated stuff there, made to look easy. So simple, even a retired cave man can do it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svDxEnEJ … WIS3EyRjdA

helifrek, I just downloaded 123d and I have to say DANG. It could not be simpler and still be a functional program. In fact, I dare say it may be simpler than SketchUp and is a true solids modeler.

The fact that it is made by Autodesk provides comfort, fer sure. It looks like it just may do anything I need done, so I may hold up for a bit here and get acquainted with it before proceeding further with Creo.

I thought Inventor was the only lower end tool they made, glad you enlightened me on that. Thanks.

Have you tried 123d design yet. I found it much friendlier than sketchup. It does lag my computer some but has a much nicer interface. I just need to upgrade my computer a little bit more.

Heartlander old buddy old pal...

You are scaring me with all the talk of all these plugins you are using for sketchup. I have to be blunt and tell you maybe to learn the fundamentals of what sketchup is capable of on its own and get good with those. A lot of fancier stuff will be a lot of work, sure, but that is where the skill comes into it. It is remarkably capable though it can be tedious. If you are seriously hitting the wall with sketchup than it may be time to move onto something that does not have "sketch" in its name. Or, follow another good engineering principle KISS. If you can't make it work then maybe you are doing it wrong, simplify, concentrate on the fundamentals. And you might also look up YANGNI.

Who likes sharp corners? No one, that's who. But when I round off my corners, oh, the calamity. If you have a place where, say, three corners intersect, yikes. And, if you push a vertical cylinder into a horizontal one, all bets are, once again, off.

I'm using Fredo's Round Corner which doesn't seem to like SU 2013, BTW. And I save Rounding for the very last operation before declaring the model finalized because editing rounded stuff can lead to lots of complications.

I know the math must be tricky, but has anyone yet encountered a plug in Rounder that works really good?
