Ok, I slid the insulation so that it's flush with the nozzle face and that did the trick. When I set the sestos to 180 I get 179.0-179.5 on average with the motor and the fan on. Seems like this problem is solved. However now I have another problem but I'll open a new thread for that.

Thanks!

Thanks Tim!
Before I read this I tightened the insulation with a couple of zip ties at both ends. That way the airflow couldn't get inside the insulation and this improved the situation a lot. But I'll definitely slide the insulation forward so that it's flush with the nozzle face.

Btw, I'm using the default wiring as described in the v1.1 assembly instructions. I.e. the fan and motor starts together with the secondary switch.

So if the first fix doesn't improve it I'll separate the fan and the motor as suggested.

I've now done about 2-3 h of the initial 8h clean out process and I've got several meters of filament filled with small metal splinters. (Yes, I'm going to discard it eventually)

Regards, Daniel

The insulation needs to be slid forward so it is flush with the nozzle.

The temperature drop has nothing to do with the motor, and everything to do with the fan being turned on and the PID controller not being ready for the disturbance. It doesn't help that your workshop is so cold, but there should be ways around that.

Fixes:
Slide insulation up
Put fan on heater circuit so it is always on (but this will lengthen heatup time)

Not sure how you have it wired, but it maybe that the fan turns out at the same time the motor does. So the fan would cause the extruder's temperature to immediately drop. I have mine set up so that the fan and motor are set on two different switches. Then I just run the fan while the filastruder is heating up.

Hi!

I've set my Sestos to 180 degrees and when it reaches that and I turn on the motor and the fan the temperature drops to as low as 162 degrees. Is this normal behaviour? Any ideas on what to adjust?

My "workshop" was quite cold yesterday at 12 degrees so it might be that.

Attaching an image of my struder.

I'm sorry if this has already been brought up but I haven't found anything related.

Regards, Daniel
