I just got a much higher quality print today. This time around, I added support structures for the first 15 layers and then only blew the fan on the part during the thinnest layers, IE the supports in between the second layer of holes from the top and bottom. Leaving the printer alone and inside my enclosure during the rest of the print helps the layers bond together (and to the bed) much better than in the photo above and seemed to clean up the overall quality.

Hey all,

I just threw together this model after somebody at a party told me that it would be impossible to print, and as it turns out while it's certainly a challenge, it's definitely not impossible. plus, it shows off how cool and potentially intricate 3d printers can get... (though obviously mine could still use some calibration!)

You can get the .stl file from thingiverse if you want to give printing it a go: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:140173
