And how did that overhang come out?  Looks good!

The overhang came out surprisingly well considering it was built on a very long length of support material.  I was concerned about that before the print.  I could have changed the orientation, but I really wanted the printed strands to be oriented to the circular plane for better accuracy.

IronMan, That's very cool. I would say it sucks,but then, its a vacuum cleaner. I'm interested in your reverse engineering method. How did you approach this challenge?

Thanks!  I basically begin by measuring the overall length and then the critical diameters and other features.  Using a solid modeler I built up a primitive cylinder and then began to add/subtract the other features as necessary. Not too difficult, but a bit tedius...I do like the challenge.

Also this guy: http://softsolder.com/ from time to time 3D prints replacement parts for all sorts of things. Most recently as comes to mind he fixed a broom with a new 3D printed part.

I would be handy to have a repository specifically for this sort of thing.

I have used my SD2 for mainly Product Development models, but I also jump at the chance to make whatever replacement parts for the home or appliances as the need arises.  It gives me great joy!  So far, I have recreated pool cue holders, microwave oven handle mounts, a guitar shunt for my Son's Stratocaster, etc.

Most recently, I reversed engineered a broken Hoover Vacuum cleaner nozzle.  The original unit failed badly(see Broken Photo) I had this reverse engineered and printed within a day and it worked perfectly!

I was wondering just how many replacement parts are out there...went to Thingiverse and of course, they have over 7,000, but you need to wade through each page hoping to find what you're looking for.

It would be great to have a site which is organized by category, and then sub-category and then by brand and model number.  I'm not a web developer...any ideas?
