Thank you for all these advices!

Yes, I already printed a MK5 set, also new stronger Y-axis brackets, and carriage sets

Given the potential hassle of breaking something, I guess I won't touch my hot end for now, if I ever decide to replace it with a more performant hot end (J-head and E3D are very popular), or if it simply fails, it will be the chance to test the MK5 set and make sure the hot end is properly aligned

As you noticed my biggest print issue is the Z wobble. I checked all recent mods and had the impression M5 rod replacement plus Slop Nut are effective and inexpensive.
What route did you choose to tackle Z-wobble? Can you tell me briefly what problem caused you such a long downtime?

Nick

Oh! Uhhh, yeah, Hmm.

(besides laughing at the mispellings in my last post [whole, note, etc]) I should add a few things.

(1) I don't really think that making the wooden piece the right side will necessarily fix the wobble you're noticing in the vertical direction. That looks like z-axis wobble if I'm not mistaken, for which you want some anti-backlash mods. I would look up the backlash information on this forum and the solidoodle wiki (google solidoodle wiki should work.) I have finally gotten my printer back up and running this week for the first time for a few months, and I have reaquired some decent Z-axis wobble. In the past, just the anti-backlash nut mod was enough for me. but recently people have been posting potentially more sophisticated and better z-wobble mods...It's worth a thorough review of the info online to see what you're comfortable with trying.

(2) To turn around the wooden piece i think you just need to remove a few screws and pop out the black groovemount system. Just remember, like any time you would handle a sharp knife, don't use too much force and be in control of whatever force you are using. If you have to exert a lot of effort to move anything chances are you're not doing it right because these parts are pretty small.

(3) That said, I think you should print a full Mk4 or MK5 extruder body replacement parts (probably Mk5 because it's more recent). It's somewhere in this forum I think, and thingiverse. The acrylic jigsaw one that you're using right now is quite easy to damage, and once it's damaged it's hard to fix it because you can't just print a replacement .

To that effect, since I got my printer up and running I've mostly been printing a full set of all plastic parts, so I never find myself without repair units. It's 10x easier to prepare before your printer breaks

Thank you Tomek for the reply, it seems a good advice.
Any precautions before doing this job?
I guess I should unload the filament before removing anything

Make sure you have the wooden piece correctly. The wholes are note actually not perfectly centered. So if you flip it 180 degrees, it might actually line up better with the black part.

Hi folks,
I'm in the never-ending quest for the perfect print quality as most of you

I've noticed my print head has its nozzle slight tilted on the Y axis. See the picture:

It seems the wooden piece is just a tad too big, therefore the angle between the wooden piece and the black plastic carriage is slightly more than 90°

I see small extruder variances when the filament is fused from back to front and from front to back. However it seems they don't affect print quality in its entirety. My biggest problem is Z-axis backlash as you can see from this pic:

Any advice?

Thank you
Nick
