And yes, I'm sure there are 100s of people who were working in private on one thing or another.   It takes true courage to be as open and professional as Lyman was, with no promise of reward.  It's one thing to toss ideas around, it's a totally different one to have decades of proven experience in the field of manufacturing and design and then to donate that time & talent to the community at large.

Also, the filastruder is a fork of the lyman, btw.  An extremely well done and much more practical fork - but a version which utilized the open source nature of those designs to help move this project forward.

He definitely has not designed for cost - he is using the same gearmotor for main drive and the puller, even though they have very different torque loads.

Also that BOM doesn't include all of the parts...

Daiwa make a line counter for about $5 if thats all its being used for but I guess he doesnt go fishing anymore...

It is always a good idea to store filament in a moisture-less enviroment just to keep levels in check.
