You can also get fiberglass fabric at a lot of hardware stores for patching holes in things like tub surrounds or boats. As long as it isn't adhesive backed, the fabric itself should handle about 540C. Just cut a strip, wrap it around a couple times, and tape it together.

Home depot sells it for about $7 a sheet: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Bondo-8-sq-f … /202077813

Then you can wrap it in silicone self-fusing tape http://www.homedepot.com/p/Super-Glue-1 … /204237144

Much cheaper to just order a sleeve from makergear, but if you need it in a hurry that's a way you can go.

Just as an aside... order a spare GrooveMount and 36mm barrel. You never know when you're going to need one and the $35 is a cheap insurance policy if you ever truly gunk up your hot end. You just switch out the heater and nozzle and you're up an running in less than an hour. It's helped me keep going.

That and shipping isn't any more for the extra parts.

Electrical tape would work in a pinch, but you're eventually gonna get a sticky mess as the adhesive will leave residue with the heat.

Try here: http://www.makergear.com/products/plast … ment-parts

They have the sleeves and are reasonable... in price and ship time.

Thanks for the information. the abs s not leaking, it was a 40mm fan duct around the hot end that melted and bonded to the rubber. Is this just a insulator? can i replace it with something else or where can i get the rubber coated fiberglass?

I've had my nozzle off quite a few times to soak it in acetone to prevent clogs. There's a fiberglass sleeve that goes over the nozzle and a couple of layers of 1/4 kapton tape that hold the thermistor in place, there's not much else there.

I don't know if there's anything you can sub for the insulator if it's been torn, others here might know.

This video will show you what you're dealing with.

http://vimeo.com/57632515

Rubber coated fiberglass. The bonding is probably from plastic leakage from the hot end where the nozzle screws onto the barrel, or from the PEEK/Barrel join. Is it at the top of the brass barrel or near the bottom by the nozzle?
