20mm's is a common length - but you can actually buy them in a multitude of diameters and lengths (they are used extensively outside of 3D printing to heat dies and moulds, engine sump heaters, and much more...)

So I would say you'll be right working with 5mm(D)x20mm(L) as a spot check of my collection here shows them all to be within the ballpark of that - but you would probably be best to confirm that with your relevant vendor to be sure ...

Do you know the length of that 5mm cartridge heater?

Many thanks Adrian and 2n2r5 - I'm not looking for the cheapest but I want one that will last me a few months and not burn out after 2 days

I'll buy the one from qu-bd you recommend and will circle back if I have any issues with its installation.

Thanks again!

what 2n2r5 said .

You can find them cheaper, but two things to be wary of:
a) diameter : the linked one is 5mm, so should fit perfectly in the existing hole. There is lots of 6mm ones though, and to use these, you need to use a 6mm drill bit and just using your hand ream out the hole to fit them. Where you have a choice, get a 5mm one..
b) recently, a batch of potentially 'mislabelled' ( appear to be 24V cartridges labelled as 12V ) and 'out-of-round' (wont fit in the hole without making it very oversize) cartridges have turned up around the places. This so far seems to potentially be limited to the 6mm variants.. but who knows right ?

So shop with impunity for the cheapest deal - but look for a 5mm one

12V 40W is the magic numbers you want...

Thanks! Can you point me to the heater cartridges you're talking about? Also, do they just fit in the hole left by the resistor or is there some more work involved?

Replace it with a heater cartridge... cleaner, faster, more reliable, longer lasting.

But otherwise, if you just want like for like, ACS-5S-4R7-J is the partnumber. http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Arc … 1Gyg%3d%3d is one distributor.

Arcol branded 4.7ohm (5%), 5 watt, wirewound through hole resistor.

But at $1 + postage a piece.. I'd just as soon spend the $9 on a cartridge once
