there was a website around that had used/retired ones for anywhere from 30k to 150k. so they are very pricy indeed! wouldn't want to imagine buying a new one. lol

Not only because of increased mass, but also the Filastruder's output rate! With a 1.75mm nozzle, you'd have to print at about 5mm/s.

It might be. Early repraps took plastic from found sources such as milk bottles and used that plastic.

The rational as to why 3d printers moved to filament is to simply the printing process. You know that you are getting constant amounts of plastic for every step of the extruder allowing you to minimize parameters in the 3d printing problem.

Like wise by having a separate filament producing robot you can focus on consistency of the resulting filament.

Would it be possible to mount a filastruder facing downwards (like a 3d printer hot end) and move it with motors (x,y,z) to create an enormous 3d printer?
