I used some High temp heat shrink and ceramic insulation. Fiber glass insulation would work also. I think the original solidoodle is just fiberglass mating covered by 125C heat shrink tubing.

I'm taking a survey of J-head heights in order to make sure my fan mount is the right height, as it's driven by the overall height of the hot end.

Going to add a print cooling fan to my machine and the hotend is no insulated like the Solidoodle hot end.  Anyone know what kind of tape they wrapped the ceramic insulator with?  I would rather not use kapton because it is kind of ugly.
