Is 1mm separation realistic?

A lot depends on your settings of course, like MeshMoth was saying, but I have gotten some Emmett Gear Bearings to print with something like .2mm or less separation between the planets. However, the base layer was fused since I have a bit too much smooshing on my z-tab setting.

Some tips:
-Go with < 50 mm/s outer perimeter speed
-Do all calibration steps for extrusion and backlash (including perfect circle procedure)
-Check your filament diameter periodically

Depends how well your printer has been calibrated. Best thing to do is do a test and try it out for yourself. Everyone has been calibrating their own printers to different degrees so there isnt much of a standard. Just put a bunch of shapes next to each other at different distances to figure out which works best for your printer. I'd probably use a bunch of cylinders since perfect circles are the hardest things to print.
