The default settings with the SD software has the first layer 5 degrees hotter than the following layers. That 5 degree drop could be the problem if you're consistently getting the first few layers to print well and then it starts skipping.
Be careful if you're going to take the barrel out of the peek, the one time I tried it I snapped the barrel. Solidoodle also recommends that you don't remove it.... YMMV

]]> Fri, 17 May 2013 08:19:51 +0000 https://www.soliforum.com/post/23093/#p23093 <![CDATA[Re: SD3: Filament Not extruding Properly]]> https://www.soliforum.com/post/22929/#p22929 To tighten it you need to heat up the extruder, back out your filament, use a 7/16 wrench on the nozzle and grip the peek barrel with a wrench and tighten.  DO NOT FORCE IT you can strip the threads in the Peek.  If it were me I would take the hot end out and unscrew the barrel from the Peek and look down the Peek from the barrel side.  You should be able to see the color of the PTFE.  If you see instead the color of your filament then you know that was your issue.

]]> Mon, 13 May 2013 20:31:31 +0000 https://www.soliforum.com/post/22731/#p22731 <![CDATA[Re: SD3: Filament Not extruding Properly]]> https://www.soliforum.com/post/22631/#p22631 The plastic barrel has an inner diameter that matches up with the ID of the brass barrel.  The plastic is supposed to move smoothly through the transition.  It may be melted or at least softened in the bottom of the plastic barrel.    If a gap develops between the top of the brass barrel and the end of the channel in the plastic, melted filament will fill it and sometimes leak.  Some of the force of extrusion will get directed into the gap rather than pushing the filament out the nozzle. 

It may be something else, but that is why Tim is recommending tightening the barrel.

I guess I'll get straight to the point,  its not extruding smoothly.  It'll start the object and get a good few rings layed down and then it gets clogged.

I then  have trouble extruding after that.

If I back the filament out,  cut it off and put it back in,  then I can get it to start extruding smoothly again.  That is until I go to try to print the object again.  Then the process repeats.

What do I need to do here?  Is the nozzle clogged?  If so how do I get it unclogged?
