Staffordknot wrote:

So should it be touching top and bottom? Every time it pulls on the filament it lifts the head up by several mm. I presume it wants to touch but not grip?

I'm curious how your print head is normally down in the front because on all my SD printers the nozzle is up by default so when the filament is pulled it would put more 'nozzle up' pull on it which would not move because the back upper block is riding on the rod not the lower block??? or have you added a lot of weight to the front of the printhead changing the balance point?

Correct. If there's too much play on the extruder head you may get some unexpected line widths. Conversely, you want the movement to be smooth on the x-axis, but not binding, so there has to be a little wiggle on the rod. Tighten the block and test the movement on the x-carriage with the motors off.

Should my printer head wobble up and down as it prints? There is a large gap on the rear guide rail see photo which seams to allow it to wobble when moving around?

How tight should the extruder thumb turn be? It seams to be struggling to push the filament through?

Cheers
