You should try glass, hairspray and the heated bed... If that 100 things you want to print is to come to fruition, you'll want to be able to shift plates to encourage faster turn around... not that your girlfriend will see any more of you with you printing like a madman...

And I agree. There are enough differences in the setups that perhaps a sticky per version might be warranted.

I've had this Solidoodle 3 for about 10 days now and have lost more sleep than I care to divulge to you all...okay A LOT! Nope...not a complaint! I'm really excited about it and have about 100 things I want to print first. Might be information overload, might be sleep deprivation, but I've started to feel the hairs growing on my face and my girlfriend asked if I was going to print a replacement for her. Had to think about the question for a minute before answering! (It was a trick question!)

In the near two weeks I've spent with {Yet To Be Named}, I've read darned near every thread on this and a few other forums and wikis. It's not that I don't have anything better to do, I just can't get it to work right! LOL! There is a serious lack of clarity between versions of the hardware and software. Add on to that the number of Operating System variations and Hacks/Mods out there (all great ideas by the way!) and it has seemed like an impossible mission. I managed to print a rough, ugly, crooked, but functional Mark 4 to replace the busted acrylic jigsaw...thank goodness for ductape. I won't go through my entire learning process because I am sure most of you have had your share, but I found a few avoidable pitfalls along the way.

On to my point and my suggestion, request, or what have you...

Request a forum sticky and wiki page dedicated to setup and configuring for each version of the Solidoodle. I know it's supposed to be amazing out of the box, but a few folks haven't received that particular "model".

Solidoodle 2 configurations are present in the 'Solidoodle 3' recommended software bundle on the Solidoodle Website; might be MAC specific problem. I luckily found a post on google groups where someone specifically posted screenshots of the default settings for Solidoodle 3 running Repetier on Windows. From those pictures I found the only two hardware settings that differed: Z Speed and Nozzle Size were 100 and .5 respectively. The correct setting for the Extruder Nozzle Diameter is .35 according to the SD.com FAQ. After changing this my life got better immediately and so did my prints.

There are many forum posts and wiki pages (here and elsewhere) which have confusing and/or outdated information and this just adds to the problem for some new SD users. Some of these pages can be found on the Solidoodle website (See above) without much effort. I know there is a lot of good information here and on other sites that is constantly changing and in need of updating. "RTFM" is always my first task but sharing the fruits of my failures is always the second thing I do as well.

Looking forward to learning and sharing with you all.

Aloha!

Jeremy

EDIT: P.S. Whatever genius came up with the hairspray on Kapton tape and a heated bed is a FRICKIN GENIUS!
