Welcome! That mission simulator project must have been really cool.

I think there's at least one other Solidoodler around here that designs and prints AUV parts. Also, there are a few other Florida residents around, including myself (but I'm in Orlando).

Do you have your S3 yet? Or are you waiting for it to ship still?

I am a "principle senior software engineer", at least this week. The title changes about every six months these days, contracting being what it is nowadays

My degree is in Physics, though I have never actually worked as one.

I'm new to 3D printing, but not to electronics and computers. My first commercial computer was a Commodore Pet 8k serial number 1001 I think. My first program was for a CDC 3600? It was the first full transistorized computer (circa 1969). Since then I've worked with the a lot of other systems. For a few years I was the Ground Contact Dynamics engineer for the Shuttle Mission Simulator. THAT was fun!

For the last decade or so I have been writing software for the Veterans Administration VistA system (their hospital information system).

My current personal project, and what lead me to 3d printing, is a small autonomous underwater vehicle. Having parts machined seems a bit expensive, and while I have a wonderfully tolerant wife, spending hundreds of dollars for a single part seemed a bit extreme, even for me. On the other hand the price of a Solidoodle 3 is not much more then a high end normal printer and I can do things with it that are actually useful around the house. So I now have a new printer .

So that is me. I look forward to reading and learning and hopefully contributing here.
