I was leaning towards testers model paint which should be designed to work on plastic without a primer since that's how it's used in hobby car model building. I just want to paint a stripe on something, but life has been busy for a week or so and my hobby is taking a back seat for the moment.

I haven't received my printer yet, but I've researched the topic a bit, and it looks like you can use hobby/model paint, but you have to use a primer first.
Apparently, the pocket tactics guys seem to paint their stuff with acrylic (thingiverse.com/thing:30463) which is what is used for instance for warhammer 40k. I'm assuming they're using a primer first, but maybe you can ask them
If you just want a uniform color you can use spray cans or an airbrush.

Has anyone played around with painting a finished print? I'm thinking testers paint but wondering if anyone has come up with a good method yet. I'm painting the rough part (.3) not smoothing first. Works fine for my application but I do need a stripe of color in one spot.

I really wish what I was doing wasn't for an invention so I could show it off a little bit, I'm doing some really cool things with mixed colors and different joints and such. I might have to make some dumbed down samples just to show the features and ideas.
