switched to a glass bed and tried again today...

again, without the raft, the extruder seems to start closer to the bed than normal
looking at Pronterface's interpretation, it basically says the first layer's being spewed out at .2mm height... then it's going up from there...

this time it started printing (practically clear on the bed), them moved up a little and kicked out so much plastic it backfilled onto the nozzle.... (I'm assuming from the backup caused by the first layer... )

I leave both checked and set Interface Layers (integer): to 0. The only different number I have on mine from what you've got showing is that for "Interface Flow Rate Multiplier (ratio): I have 0.6 where you have 1.0. This gives me a thinner raft which is easier to peel. I almost never use raft anymore though.

do I simply deactivate both the options there? (activate raft, and orbit?)

or am I supposed to leave one of those on?

I notice in other pictures, people's prints have a perimiter printed around their parts,
mine doesn't seem to do that, or even try...

No you shouldn't have to adjust anything after disabling the raft. I don't see any issues on that tab all of the settings are okay.

Can you post a picture screenshot of your raft tab? The non raft issue you're describing sounds like you don't have enough gap between nozzle and bed. I'd have to see your settings to see if I see any other issues.

ok, so, using Skeinforge/Pronterface...

i can get a happy print just fine (no notable curling, little drip, etc...) with the raft on...

if i click off the raft option, on the same print,
the head starts so low that it starts jamming.. virtually no plastic is extruded (i can see residue) to the point where after a second or two the motor starts clicking 'cause it can't feed in plastic, and as soon as I stop and lower the print bed it oozes all over the place...

i know it's something simple I'm forgetting, but please, what is the problem?
