Not only is this more sturdy than the laser cut acrylic chassis, but the spool holder is universal, so you can repurpose all your empty spools (at least the ones that didn't get in a fight with your shredder and end up food for the Filastruder).

Relatively new Filastruder and Filawinder owner. I've been having good luck with my filastruder so far but I've run in to issues trying to re-use spools on the filawinder. Most slip when trying to wind or but up against the drive gear causing the winder to stop from too much friction.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a printed or purchased spool that works better before I redesign the spool hub for something that connects the spool to the gear directly?
