I could not get the clip to work so....The screen is slightly larger than the nozzle. I pushed the screen down into the nozzle so that it turn the edge up. I then flip the screen over and pushed the now turned down edge into the nozzle. That was enough to keep the screen in place while I assembled the pieces. I ditched the clip since it sounded like it was not that important.

I haven't noticed anything, but it should be easy enough to just add in a stack of brass #10 washers and then another clip if it were a problem.

Did you see any increase in temperature fluctuation with the hollow nozzle?

I had a similar issue with my nozzle where the clip wouldn't stay in, the walls of my nozzle where the clip was supposed to go in was tapered slightly so the clip just shot out once I removed the pliers. I ended up making a new nozzle from a 1/2" NPT cored brass plug:

I used a #10 flat washer to offset the filter screen, a 60 mesh 1/2" stainless steel pipe screen for the filter, and a 15/32" snap ring to hold the screen in.

The ones with the two posts that go into the ring, right? Tried that, didn't fit.

My issue is that even with the ends of the ring touching, there's always a side of the ring up over the lip. I tried using flat pliers to squeeze from the sides and get it in and slipped, caught my thumb. It's fine now, but there is no way that ring is going in that nozzle.

I've built several kits. Use a snap ring pliers to compress it and just push it to the inside of the nozzle. Should go without a problem. Just sits on the ID, it doesn't need a groove to hold it.

so is it a useless piece? I've spent three days trying to install the melt filter in mine. I found a youtube video where a guy hunches over his, not visible on camera, and gets it installed in about 10 seconds; I don't know what movements I'm supposed to make mechanically to achieve this.

It's probably also worth noting I'll likely regain full use of my thumb in a day or two, after losing a chunk of it to a pair of pliers while trying to fit the circlip in the nozzle. When fully compressed, the circlip is geometrically a larger circle than the nozzle itself, so I'm pretty sure installing it is physically impossible anyway.

All of the force is driving the screen into the nozzle, so the circlip is not really needed, and a groove for it is certainly not needed. Really the circlip just holds the screen in place during assembly.

On my 1.75 nozzle there is a screen and I got two circlips in kit so I am assuming they are meant to hold screen in place. However on my nozzle there is no groove to hold clip in place! Do I need to request another nozzle or is it not a big deal?
