I tried this on my da Vinci Nano with firmware v1.1.8 and it didn't work, remaining filament decreased. Is there anything special I need to do? Do I need an older firmware, and if so, which one from where?

I don’t know about the nano, but I’m on firmware 2.4.8 and printing only from cura and not using anything xyz made except the printer over usb.

So basically use a third party slicer and nothing else, if someone were to find a way to reverse the firmware and remove the check entirely it would be awesome, but this works too.

To my knowledge when you use Cura it does not nor has anyway to track usage. This is how they opened sources that machine as the did the others with the new smart roll thing they sell on their site.

That’s the thing I ordered a roll of red pla on amazon and since it reads 200m instead of 1100m it likely isn’t a open smart tag, knowing this bypasses the tracking could save people a lot of money and time using bypasses.

I didn’t see or could find any posts about this, I nearly bought the open smart tag roller or a mod, hopefully this is repeatable for others.

If I open XYZprint it shows 200/200m of filament, but like I said, I have been printing for about 8 hours and that's not counting the 2 failed prints... So I've used at very least 1m of filament and I highly doubt someone made a mistake and put a open smart tag on this roll.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I just really lucky?

Definitely not going to print from XYZprint or the sdcard (can't anyway, doesn't recognize any files), if this keeps going then I guess I found a bug, a workaround or got lucky somehow.

17.72m used and it thinks it's a untouched spool, I'm laughing all the way to cheaper PLA!
