I am definitely interested in a solution for an SD2 bed sled. I posted in the “Help” section about it: I just got an old, 100% stock SD2 with everything working except for the wooden bed sled. I definitely want to get it updated, starting with the bed sled.
Azerate, if you are willing to share the sled design you show in the OP It would be appreciated, even if its not complete.
As far as the bearings, I like the pillow blocks attached to the sled the best but the flanged bearings are an interesting suggestion.

Do you still need this? I'll be around the house for a few days, so if you want me to draw up specs and share files let me know. I haven't had any time really to perfect the design, so another hand on the project would help us both.

I ended up going a different route and robbed the sled from another SD2 I've been planning on modding, but haven't had the time. All works well with this design aside from the Z guide rods (not the threaded). Here's why:
1) I attempted to cannibalize the brass bushings from another sled, but even with a heater and a hammer, I couldn't break them loose without risking the safety of the sled itself.

If someone had a link to a good source for the bushings, I could finish and confirm this project. Again, aside from the lack of bushings, everything sourced and assembled were perfect.
