To anyone with the same problem: loosen the screws holding the motor to the fram and see if it works then. I had to use some washers (or an extra nut or two) to shorten the distance the screw can go into the motor. Works great now and no high pitched noise!

As I turn from the lowest position, it begins to sing a quite B5 (click here and find the note to hear what I'm hearing https://recursivearts.com/virtual-piano/). As I turn the knob, the sound goes away again until I reach the max and it's silent.
