]]> Tue, 01 May 2018 16:37:39 +0000 https://www.soliforum.com/post/143827/#p143827 <![CDATA[new 3d printer hobbyist here]]> https://www.soliforum.com/post/143823/#p143823 Hello.  I'd been toying with getting a 3d printer for the past year or so (mainly so that I could make parts, adapters and things to support some of my other hobbies) but had never pulled the trigger.  I didn't get serious until we acquired one at work (Ultimaker 2+) and I was able to play around with a bit in person.  This inspired me to get one for home use.

I shopped around and eventually narrowed it down to 4 options:  Monoprice Delta, Maker Select, Da Vinci JR or Jr Pro.  I ended up getting a Da Vinci Jr (not the pro version) as it was on sale for under 200 from B & H and would give me a chance to get my feet wet and decide if it's something I might pursue more seriously in the future.  I could always add another printer in the future....

So, I've had the printer now for a couple weeks and have enjoyed it very much, along with the knowledge I'm acquire regarding 3D printing (e.g., handling clogs, cleaning, tweaking parameters such as retraction etc).  Looking forward to expanding my skill (and hardware) set in the future!

As for myself, I have an IT background.  Hobbies besides 3D printing include astronomy, model rocketry and photography.  I also enjoy casual video gaming.  Old enough to remember the good old days of The Who, Led Zeppelin and the Stones :-)
