I locked mine the same way this way being reckless. So my paper tags have come in and Ill play with them this weekend. As a backup, I bought 600g roll of black from Amazon for $11 that Ill try cloning that nfc tag or al least watch the values change.

Regarding making a new tag from paper-nfc's - if you have arduino-parts and a NFC shields, its pretty straight forward - theres sourcecode available (and i can send you mine)

If AUTHLIM has been reached, I doubt you will be able to read past page 8 (0..7) - ever. "ny further negative password verification leads to a permanent locking of the protected part of the memory for the specified access modes" (quote: ntag213 specs)

Did you purchase an ebay item? You can just enter the UID (page 0 + page 1) into https://nfckey.xyz . The password is to be used. However, there is an off chance that Mifare app actually uses an authentication of say 0x00000000 (or something else, something default or obvious) before determining that the tag is locked - however that would make the app rather... .. well.. bad :-) but that would explain why it died.

Either that, or you entered the wrong code

Thanks for the feedback! I should have read about this AUTHLIM first, I was reckless.

I tried entering the UID on the nfckey page, and then I used the generated key as a password to decrypt the NFC tag, as shown in this video: https://youtu.be/uDi-4H7v5CU But that didn't work. Was it supposed to work like that? Should I have used the generated PACK code somehow? Although I have 35 years of programming experience, and hacked a lot of games on Commodore 64 and Amiga, I am a complete newbie in this 3D printing hacking field ;-)

For example, suppose I want to flash a new paper NFC tag, what data do I put on this tag? Again, complete newbie...

Sure I can dump the tags that are visible. Shall I paste this here? What data do you want exactly?

Now that its already not working, can you dump the tags thats visible ? have you tried using the code from nfckey to unlock it?

yes, it is very possible they have added an AUTHLIM on the chips from now on. Basically, the printer always gets the password right, as the printer always excepts the NFC to be filament. However, any other device will probably try to read the pages first, and get rejected doing to; if there are any kind of attempted authentication, and AUTHLIM is set to 1 - its gonna refuse further attempts.

I do not know if they can be unlocked again after AUTHLIM has been reached.

Flashing cheap NFC tags should work for all printers, but it is possible that the firmware from now on, will expect all new filament (probably calculated based on the UID) to have an AUTHLIM set - if it does not, it will again, brick it. However, these are only guesses.

Edit: you can get your original filament working again, with a paper-nfc (cheap nfc) i would bet.

I just purchased a DaVince Minimaker, and having fun with it. My first steps in 3D printing

For fun I read the NFC tag on the filament using my Android smartphone, and after reinstalling the filament, the printer doesn't recognize the cartridge anymore... I'm 99% sure I have not written anything to the NFC tag ;-) I did try to decrypt the data on the tag using https://nfckey.xyz, but didn't work.

Could XYZPrinting have added some form of protection to the chip, that does not allow reading it? Or was I so stupid to have written something to the tag without knowing it...

Does anyone know how I could get this genuine filament cartridge going again?

Also, do the tricks mentioned on this forum (flashing cheap NFC tags) still work for the DaVince Minimaker, firmware 1.1.1?

Thanks a lot!
