Thanks for the reply Carl. My printer was bought as a DIY kit, the Tronxy very similar to the one shown here https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Auto-le … e7f1043-40

I see what you mean about setting the offset, i think. I'll look inside the G-code tomorrow and see if i can edit the figure. I assume i should increase it to cover the thickness of the glass plate? ie: 3mm.
I use slic3r for slicing and although this is not from my printer but a screen capture of an instruction sheet, am i correct to assume the "z up 5mm" line is where i should adjust the figure?

The sensor your printer uses detects the bed, it is most likely a proximity sensor that detects it's distance from metal and not the glass as you said. You would need manually add the 3mm offset into your start g-code in your printer host. Since you did not tell us which printer you have it will be hard to be more specific. If you could let us know your printer and model we could get you more information.

Hi
First time so be gentle.
I've bee into this 3d printing lark for a few months now and just about getting my head around things. Confidence is high re printing and setting up etc but, today i hit a problem.
I decided to use glass as a print surface but now i can't get the z axiz set up, the extruder acts as if it doesn't see the glass and is auto homing to the ally bed beneath it. The glass is 3mm and the sensor is sitting on it so i can't get the extruder to stop at the correct distance from the glass for printing. Bed level test wwill push the bed down even though i set it before hand. For now i've removed the glass again. I hope all this makes sense.
