When you say the defaults are 0, do you mean that when it prints the steps/mm into the log on bootup or reset, it says they are 0? Or are you getting empty fields in the EEPROM config window (OSX problem)?

After you set steps/mm with M92, you can write the current settings to the EEPROM with M500. This is different from Firmware, and "above" it. What is written in EEPROM will take precedence over what is in firmware. If you enter M501 it will print out to the log whatever settings are in there. M502 will reset the EEPROM to factory defaults, whatever that is. Possibly it makes them all 0 so the values in firmware will be used instead.

YEs I did a tension test off the top belt and had it run smooth like the video. Then my calibration parts ran great and accurate circles too. Then wham oo next print it runs great then slip;s in Y then thats it will not load any values into firmware?

I checked voltages and they check out. And I can send signals to drives but all 4 drives gone bad? I can not imagine that. Somehting simple?

I just reloaded firmware again and it worked but still all zeros in RH. IS there a way to save to PRom then reload force a reboot?

Right now it is not voltages cause the values are not even staying in the chip.

What does that mean change chip? To replace if burned out or can I upgrade it?

I wouldn't assume the whole board is bad unless traces have been ruined. Belt tension is really pretty touchy in my experience, so you may want a quantitative approach to measuring tension (like Ian created); I personally just felt it out like the tech did on the official sd support videos, "aiming for a evenly smooth glide, while no power is running to the steppers" and I have no need for circle hysteresis corrections at all and it moves freely. Those noises are normal most likely, that's the beautiful song of the stepper drivers. You can change just the ATMega chip on the Sang 1.3 board, that's one of its main advantages to a novice user.

Do you smell any burnt PCB? Have you checked any voltages? TBH at worst it sounds like you might have a bad stepper driver or 2, but it could simply be binding, or a single fried electrical component (I've seen only one person who had a very random open/damaged circuit since I joined here awhile back). I remember way more people with stepper driver voltage calibration issues, but at this point I personally would inductively run a gamut of troubleshooting before assuming you can't find stability with your machine.

Ok I have posted on y axis probelms recently. My SD2is about 2 weeks old and only ran for about 1 week which was just calibrations. Bed level being the worst cuprit of bad prints and I suspect wobble cause of dragging the extruder head

Well after getting it working I started printing real parts and then the y step problem started. FOr a week alignments and voltages check lube etc. I know this thing is not binding I can tell when it is and isnt and it is dialed in. Then the bed level problems got worse. Warped plate. really bad about .2mm from middle to edges. SO I had to plan my zstop if I was printing a wide or small part.

SO I tried printing and tension adjustment with measurements and always had y steps to the back. ( i tried filament and monitored and not the issue) Finally rebuilt it and went to glass. Night and day. The squish and level and stick problems go away! And then you can really see a differance in your calibration. So last night I get 2 small pieces that look awesome. Best prints yet.

So I go for a big job that failed all the time before it starts out perfect up to teh fail point (layer 16) and it goes past it I leave and come back and it failed. of course. Dam machine so inconsitent. BUT it failed by stepping to the front of the machine? Not the back, weird never sen that.

And it stopped mid print. no errors or warnings. SO I killed teh job rebooted usb and power reconnect but only heaters can turn on. Just sites in idle state. And I notice all of the defaul log values load up as zero. So I reload firmware. It uploads but still zero default. I manually type in M92 codes for xyz and they work but the motors barely budge. They all move but slolwy.

I wonder
1: I assume my whole board i bad?
2: How do I get eeprom to take or upload the Mcodes? what am I missing.
3: i verified the firmware is uploaded by changing the author and that works so it is loading into the eeprom
4: I wonder if board was bad all long, made lots of whistling noises since I owned it and explains the y step failure it was board all the time just getting progressively worse.
5: Can I change just the prom out or have to pull whole board and drivers? If I have to replace what should I upgrade too?
6: I know it was not heat related because I would print back to back prints and they always failed at same part from the first print to last print if heat related the problem should happen sooner as things overheat. I also could improve it a littlw with the belt tension but after all this belt adjustment no way are things this sensitive. I know I am close and it ran fan with no adjustments before so it should work

So am I going crazy is board bad? is belt tension this critical that I have to adjust after every print.
