XYZprinting recommend cut off some white tube that connects the feeder and extruder. The connecting part of the tube inner suface gets smoother after long time use and lead to increased resistance to the filament movement. I would try this first.

If you have a JR I would suggest replacing your filament stepper motor with the following or something similar.

Have you cleaned the filament feeder, as it will often get dirty from the filament.

Thanks. A new spool (ubder week old) just snapped - or at least stopped feeding filament half way thru a print.

That makes me think it may be some other fault. The XYZ junior has printed fine for over a year and this problem has just started.

You can bake the filament in a low temp like 140F for several hours but the cartridge body may not hold up to the heat nor your oven be able to operate that low.

I have started using some old xyx spools which are now nearly empty. I have found that the filament often snaps half way thru a print and think its because as the spool empties the torque on the spool from the printer feeder has to increase to get the spool to rotate since the radius is much lower.

Are there any recommended ways to prevent these snapped cables? I read on another thread that old pla becomes brottle as it absorbs moisture if left for a long time. Is there a way to reverse this process? Perhaps putting it in a bucket of moisture absorbing powder?
