Update: I managed to connect a computer power supply I took out of a computer and connected the wires and the filawinder started working. How would I be able to get a replacement power supply for the filawinder?

As explained in the post where I found the solution myself, some of the power supplies simply don't meet their ratings, even when new (lowest bidder Asian manufacturing).
The laser board can't power up correctly with the short bursts of power at the main board.
Try a different 12v 1.5-2.0 amp supply if you have one on hand, and see if anything changes.

This is a video of the motor on with the servo unplugged, and everything else on. You can hear me pressing random buttons and switches which had no effect.

Is with the servo unplugged. I then plug in the laser and on difference happens.

This power supply is brand new, though. Also, shouldn't the laser work if the servo is unplugged?

So I had tested it without the ribbon cable and it changes nothing.
If I unplug the servo the motor turns continously, and the behavior does not change when I plug in the laser, which doesn't turn on. With all combinations of button presses and switch flips.

So I assembled a filawinder kit. I plugged everything in and it is not working. If the motor is plugged in and the servo is unplugged, the motor rotates 'normall' (or at a decent pace).
If I have everything plugged in both the motor and the servo will move forward in short bursts, approximatly 1 per second. See video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7YEx5 … sp=sharing (ignore the sound)

As far as I can tell everything is plugged in correctly, and I used a multimeter continuity tester to verify all the buttons were working and that the signal is going to the input of the arduino.
I have also been unable to get the laser to do anything.  I have been unable to get any behavior other than the two described above, regardless of the combination of buttons and switches pressed.

What should I try doing to get it working?
