a little precursor - I used to own a 1967 F-250 pickup truck - nearly all original. Loved that old truck - it was solid as rock, reliable, and would haul some serious stuff (we loaded over 3500lbs of shingles & other roofing materials on it when we built our 3 car+ garage - handled it with no problems)

Several years ago, I had to sell it - I couldn't drive it anymore due to foot problems (it was a manual & I can't use a clutch anymore - too painful) and I didn't want to see it sit here and rot from not being used... As much as it pained me to sell it, it deserved better.

Being into both scale modeling & RC stuff, I decided to build a scale version of this truck... with the body being made out of wood and styrene plastic... (this was before getting into 3d printing)

Of course life has a tendency to get in the way, and I was never quite happy with the way it looked - the sides were too flat looking... it never really got finished... it sits on a shelf gathering dust...

Fast-forward a couple of years to now... I have multiple 3d printers at my disposal, and a working knowledge of using Blender to model things... Time to try my hand at creating a printable 3d model of this truck. I know this is not going to be an easy task I have set for myself, but I think I may be able to pull it off, and have it come out relatively well if I take my time, and think about how things will be oriented for printing.

anyway... dug out my old pictures for reference material and started modeling... got to this point and started searching for reference photos of the back of the cab so I could model that correctly...

the pictures I found of the cab back revealed that I still did not have enough of a curve in the sides... and I wasn't exactly happy with the hood, either - it just wasn't quite right.

After looking at things, and trying to figure out how to correct my mistakes, I finally decided it would be easier to just start over...

and this is where I am at currently...

and a similar angle of the real deal...

I still have a ways to go, and this is still just the rough "blocking it in" stage, but I think I am getting there... Once I have the whole thing blocked in, I will be doing a lot of refining and tweaking to get it just right. Then thinking about cutting it into smaller, more easily printed parts...
