It was the bed plate, I had to use shims to level it as the stock way of levelling doesnt seem to work too well.

What is the Z offset shown on the LCD when you go to the Z offset setting?

your bed is not level
also do not use paper
use a metal feeler Gage or a strip of beverage can in a pinch.

You have to check in at least 4 places on the bed not just one
Looks like you checked in the middle of the bed and the left side is too high and the right side too low.

First thing I would try is re-levelling with just one sheet of paper, 2 sheets is probably too big a gap.
That should squish the 1st layer right down onto the bed.
If not, I would just keep raising the bed a fraction at a time till you get it right.
With mine, I can hardly seen any gap between the nozzle and the bed and I get great 1st layer adhesion with PLA and ABS.

OK so I have a new Da Vinci Printer where I can't get the first layer to stick down. I have tried glue and blue painters tape. I've also tried levelling the x-axis, setting the z-axis nozzle height to 2 sheets of paper and cleaned the nozzle and filament gears. Why oh why won't it stick???
