I second the Hale heater. I put one on my delta and if i dont heat it up slowly itll shatter my glass bed. Done it twice now

I can vouch for the Hale heat beds - have 2 of them installed on my SD4s - LOVE them!

Even on #1, that has 1/4" thick aluminum plate, plus a mirror tile on top of that, takes less than 10 minutes to heat to 90C (I have also found that the lower temp works quite well)

you wont regret it.

140c max is recommended. No external PSU needed.

Yep, that's the one.
On my SD3 with the AC bed heater I had roughly $110 into components. It gets up to 105 in less than a minute and is a 500w heater. It's very fast but it also has definite hot spots that can negatively impact prints. I also have several Hale heaters and although they take 3-5 minutes to heat up the distribution is so even that I've found 90 degrees for ABS is actually better. In your setup I suspect heat up times will be increased due to the additional mass. So this will be an interesting test and I look forward to seeing your results.

AC will be more and there's the above mentioned safety concerns. But you asked my preference and I like fast heat up times. For that it comes down to wattage and DC can't beat AC in that area. The Printit heater is amazingly fast and evenly distributed. I'd say if you could stick one to aluminum you'd be happy with it even though it wouldn't reach all the way to the edges.
If you want to order one and try it I'd be happy to take it back should it not meet your needs.

I stay away from AC when possible just for safety. If something shorts it could kill you or others. DC while still possible but far less likely. It's your choice but yes for AC you would need an SSR.

For the stock UM2 build plate it is a PCB heater on the bottom, an alumium plate on top, and then glass. I also have a layer of PEI attached to the glass for better ABS adhesion.

Hey Soliforum,

Back in the day when I had my SD2, I remember you guys doing upgrades to silicon heater pads. Would anyone here be able to guide me in the right direction as to what heater to buy, what additional electrionics I will need, and what firmware changes I would need to make.
