You may need to set a "coast" value to not extrude as you approach the next layer. In S3D, the optimal is to apply a coast value of around .2 to .3 and a "extra restart distance" of around -.20 (note negative value) to retract slightly to eliminate blobs. After doing that, most of the ugly blobs went away. You can also apply a wipe operation on the nozzle too.

Heartless, I do understand that now, but when I first saw that I figured it only applied to that program. (I was a total newb then .. couldn't even spell 3d printer!)

So, I used some of the info to make some changes and I am fairly pleased with the results. I did a test piece and I think it looks much better. I moved all the way back to 205c for the head and put retraction back to 4.5 (I had cut it way back for some PETG I was using). I am going to reprint the other piece this morning and see how it looks.

you dont have to use S3D to find the troubleshooting guide useful.

Heartlander, I had seen that before but forgot about it because I don't use that program. I see now, by a quick read, that I should have paid more attention as a lot of answers are there.

For your ref.:

I use a HTCTOP's Prusa mendel i3 printer to make some PLA models very well,
the settings are that printing speed: 30mm/s, layer height: 0.3mm, infill: 50%,
temp. (for PLA): 210/55 C., slicer: Cura.

Thanks Heartless ... I must not have had enough coffee yet as my fingers didn't type what the brain told them to ... 217 was the actual temp, but I have cut that down to 210 on the reprint (printing now).

225 is a bit much for PLA, too. you might try lowering that temp a fair amount - like to 210 or so.

As the title says, I did a print that has way too many nubbins/artifacts/bumpy bits.

Wanhao Duplicator I3 Plus
Cura Slicer
Brand new roll of PLA, opened for this project.
Bed 60, Head 225
Retract at !.5
Print speed at 25
Layer at .1

I have just changed to a Mark 10 all metal hot end.

The first prints I did with the all metal were just fine. All I had to do was adjust the bed slightly.

I am wondering if the nubblies are from not being sliced properly? Head too hot ... too cold?

Anyone have any ideas?
