I've printed lots of stuff for my Alfa Romeo; some of the little bits are getting hard to find for older Italian sports cars. This is the first time I've had to print something for one of my old VWs; most parts for those are relatively plentiful and cheap.

I was installing a new stereo in my wife's '76 Super Beetle convertible. The new radio is 1" deeper than the old aftermarket one...not enough room behind the dash. So I made an adapter that extends the new single-DIN adapter out 23mm from the original mounting position. There are tabs on each side to cover up the cut-out areas for the volume and tuner shafts, and also some structure to ensure a tight fit in the original hole.

I had to print it in left and right halves to fit on my SD4. Even then, when including brim and support structures, it took up the whole usable width of the build area. Fortunately, my new bed heater from PrintIt does an excellent job of heating all the way to the edges!

Print time at .1mm layer height was over 8 hours for each half. I printed each half separately for improved adhesion (to prevent warping) to the print bed.

I think it turned out well. The wife is happy, and that's what counts.

-Kevin
