Welcome to the group.  Ya, until you get the printer all you can do is read these and other forums for problem fixes, ideas, etc.  oh and of coarse learn the slicing software.  There are lots of little tricks with some of them and some are better for certain models.  I would install Repetier host if you haven't already from the developers site, then use the solidoodle blog to input a good starting point settings for both Slic3r and Skeinforge.  Then download Cura and KISSlicer and give them a shot.  You will see the differences on all of them.

Yup, I've been toying around with the settings and slicing things with Slic3r for the past 2-3 weeks. I'd like to get started with the new slicers this week, but I'll probably put that behind drawing things up in inventor, for now at least.
