Ah yes, sorry I forgot that wasn't a standard option.
I use Jim's STL importer which can be download from his site
http://sketchuptips.blogspot.co.uk/201 … -redo.html

He has a whole host of plugins most of which baffle the hell out of me. Maybe someday I will learn what they all do, but not today.

Oh and be aware that when they import the scaling seems to be out but when you export it you just select the same dimensions it was created in and it seems to sort itself out. If you're not sure whether it was created in mm or inches I always start with inches, works most of the time.

If I could tell everyone about solid inspector I would, and then it would save me a bit of time.......or is that me just being lazy.

I know you have already found a fix but I thought I would add my 2 cents.

After a couple of prints that just seemed to eat themselves I now always check the gcode in RH to see what it thinks it is going to print and has saved me a lot of wasted time and filament with things like this.
The brain slug you have downloaded has no end of little errors that make it not manifold of which there are two very small holes at the base of the antenna which is causing this problem.

These days I import the stl into sketchup and then use the "solid inspector" plugin http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30504 which highlights all the issues. You will be amazed at how many double surfaces exist in some of the simplest looking models.

I went from this -

because of these errors -

to this -
by only fixing the couple around the base of the antenna, and it also cut the slicing time down to.

I can be a bit of a pain to sort this out as some models are riddled with holes or inaccuracies but once sorted it will make printing so much better, plus you get to learn all the little details of a model whilst fixing it so you can tweak the end result.

Oh and don't get me wrong I can't thank the everyone who uploads to Thingiverse for their models they are all fantastic, by sorting these little bits out makes me realise how much work has already gone in to them.

Now I have found a brain slug time to break out the green :-)

Thank you all for your input. After performing all the printer calibrations, fixing the mesh with netfabb studio basic (I noticed a warning when Slic3r was doing it's thing) and removing the support material option. I got a better result.

I used 0.1mm profile. Temps: 200/95 and 50% scale.

That should work without support, underside of the antenna balls might be a little tough but I'd think at that time it'll be going slow enough due to cool settings that it should be fine.

If you don't want to chance it turn your support down to .6 or so, but you're going to have a lot of cleanup to do after you're done.
