Just wanted to clarify this. There is no upper maximum when it comes to the output current of a power supply. Having more than needed is always better than having just enough. I have a 75 AMP on my Kossel Mini and that would be 900 watts for those not know the math. The system will not use more than it needs so there is no danger in having surplus current.

There is no upper limit, but there is a very firm lower limit and that should be a minimum of 100 watts higher then max system draw.  The issue is that 80% of all the power supplies supplied for 3d printers do not do their rated output and usually do about 30% less once under load.. There is no body that governs them so they do not have to worry about defending themselves if a supply does not meet the rated output.

That's why I use HP redundant server supplies that have been converted. Those must do their rated output under max load.

Without a proper load, they provide very inconsistent voltage on the 12V rails, and can even overheat and shut down if this goes on for too long. This was my experience with two separate ATX supplies, one manufactured in 2014 and one in 2002. I recommend the supernight, if you have questions feel free to contact us. If you buy it from us, you can pick up an AC power cord as well if you need one.

There's a small switch for 120 or 220 and it was set at 220:P

I'm pretty sure this a common problem with this
model of printer and now I know why.

It's a M505 Omni Anet A 8.

At first it felt like a great buy for $157, easy to set up, and prints great(or at least better than the press).

But as soon as I turn on the cooling fan the extruder temp drops, and it doesn't have enough power to get back up. I've tried different fan shrouds with little improvement. Is it a power supply problem?

It's a 12v printer and any help would be appreciated.
