50 is wayyyy to fast for s Da Vinci and way to fast for such a small item.

PLA retains heat much longer than ABS. Because of this you need to slow things way down so it spends time longer on each layer to allow it to cool more before doing the next layer. A layer fan helps but you still need to slow down to 30 or less. You can also print more than 1 at a time of small items. If you only need one then print it with something else.

Thanks guys, It was Cura.... i tried repetier host and it works. My print quality is pretty gross right now... anyone have any ideas on how to calibrate or make it better? Im printing at 50mms at .3mm with pla running a layer fan. Current steps are Default_axis_steps_per_unit {93.74, 94.184, 2564, 145.513}

I have no idea what kind of belts are on the davinci, so i took the numbers from some other thread... he seemed to be having good results, except he had a different extruder, i have mk7 on the stock motor running a bowden setup... so i took 200x16 and then divided by 7 to get 145.513. It seems ok? I don't know if the stock da vinci motors are true nema 17s so its all guesswork. Gonna try to get better results with ABS when I install the 100k thermistor in the bed here in a few minutes.

Thanks again,
Andrew

This is a cura issue. Try another host like Repetier just to confirm. The problem is in your start gcode which overrides preheat settings and such that are done from the LCD or machine control panel in cura. You also want to use an older version of cura like 10.5.

Hey guys, Ive got a heavily modded XYZ DaVinci 1.0 running a bowden extruder and ramps 1.4 with full graphic lcd controller. The hot end is an e3d v6 bowden running in a custom carriage (andy's x carriage).

Everything moves properly, and Im trying to run my first print after converting to ramps, however when i start the print in Cura, printing pla with heated bed disabled, the hot end shuts off after the first 30 seconds, and then marlin throws THERMAL RUNAWAY error. Its obvious the heater is shutting off because temp just plummets until the print just stops.

Any suggestions? Im trying to rule out all possibilities before RMAing my board. when pre-heating with the controller, it runs fine, is it cura thats the issue? maybe my g-code?

Also, if anyone knows how to calculate the proper step counts for marlin for an external bowden extruder running a mk7 drive gear that would be appreciated as well. The Motors are the stock knock off nema17's that come on the xyz printers.

Thanks again for your help, troubleshooting this has been a mini-nightmare.

Andrew
