]]> Sun, 24 Feb 2013 01:50:43 +0000 https://www.soliforum.com/post/13792/#p13792 <![CDATA[Re: Filament Coloring System *Failed]]> https://www.soliforum.com/post/13791/#p13791 I have used black sharpies on my natural filament before marked every inch or so.  I originally was doing it so I could tell it it was drawing filament and not skipping when I was accross the room.  It made part of the print that was make with the marked section greyish blue from a black sharpie.  The color didn't bleed or wipe off at all so this should work once you get the sizes right.

Lawsy's is more rounded.

So I set out to combine this colorizer with one of the filament guides to create a system to color natural filament while it is being pulled into the back of the solidoodler.  I like this approach as it is super easy for anyone to use and you can continually switch out sharpies to different colors during the print. I also wanted that ease-of-use to be maintained while keeping the enclosure on to have the benefit of the heated build chamber.

But it looks like the sharpie formula does infact weaken the filament before it can feed into the extruder causing it to snap (this is the first time I have ever had filament snap on me). Might have to try one of the raised case designs to get this guy to work and stop using the official one.

I still want to try and add a spot for a third sharpie.  It uses cmetzel's thread design and inside part.
